i use plastic trash containers for my compost with holes drilled out for air and it works pretty good i turn it over everytwo weeks i just dump the pile out then shovel it back in and it breaks down pretty quick also i put lime ontop once in a while.helps break it down quicker

This is the worst monthly recap yet, This should have been a video on Sq. Ft. Garden Shapes and Composting. Not the tips for Oct. that we expect.

I think it WAS a video about garden shapes and composting. What are you meaning?

I am confused. How do those watermelons and pumpkins NOT break the vines. I know he said the *stem* gets thicker, but what about the vine holding the stem? I’d really like to see those vertical growing pumpkins in that is possible. Thanks.

we use plastic garbage cans as well. they work beautifully — we been getting almost ready to use compost in 2 months. along with drilled holes, we also cut a square on the bottom 1/3 of the side to dig out the good stuff as well as a hole on the bottom 1″ of the side for drainage/compost tea (throw some gravel on the bottom and then a layer of mesh so solid compost doesn’t go to the bottom).

in addition to lime, hydrogen pyroxide gives it a nice kick start.

…meant it should have been titled that, There wasn’t the usual “what’s going on in the garden this month” No tips for October.

Theres still a lot going on out there, that’s all.

I also use the same method as you do and it’s convenient. Ash from a charcoal grill is good to add too. It’s a great FREE source of potash. BTW, my neighbors now bring me their lawn clippings instead of bagging them and having the city pick them up with the trash collection.

Looking in his book, it looks like he uses some nylon or fabric and makes a little hammock for them attached to the fence.
