You are great. Thank you. I love people who love plants! I have a friend who has bamboo in front of his rest. and I will plant and container for next summer. Do you know how it does through a New York City winter?

i doubt it. they usually survive in temps above 60 or so. if i were you, i would just buy some lucky “bamboo” (not really bamboo) and keep it in the house. the shafts won’t grow anymore where they were cut. but if you let the leaves on them keep growing, eventually, those offsprings will turn into shafts also.

They will over take your yard if not contained and maintained and some types of bamboo can grow over a foot a day and spreads like wild fire.

….the seeds can’t get into the water…. and have super low viability… and depending on the species don’t even appear but once or twice a (human) lifetime.

Indeed you can grow bamboo in Canada. I have many many species in my garden. There is one guy on our island with 200 different species on his property. Cheers
