Second of six videos on sensitively restoring some old apple trees in a small backyard orchard. Southampton, February 2009. the only tool you need is a good saw, I have posted a few other vids on how to use a saw safely to remove large branches and won’t go over it all again. If in doubt, remove LESS wood than you think you need to, as a rough guide 20-30% maximum, and saw out whole branches to reduce crowding. Remove wood which is obviously dead or diseased. Apple wood makes great wood for smoking on the bbq…of course it has to dry out first. Thanks so much for this vid…we are moving to the country with some neglected apple trees & hope I learn enough from this to salvage them. Cheers !
