MitchellM15:
1) That was a paper crate
2) No packing devices, all loose loading
3) Sort of 50/50 on expecting these trucks… I knew of their existence years ago, but wasn’t sure if they were still on route at present.

In addition to daily exercise, I bet this boosts their co-ordination when it comes to sorting all those bottles – crazy how fast they were going! Thanks for the rate and comment.

Yer would take a while if they put the crates back neatly, plus they’d be breaking tradition – toss them everywhere lol

February 3rd, 2009 | 2:34 am
Trashman242:
Yeah as if there aren’t enough places using automated bins. Be thankful there still ARE some places that have manual recycling

Another great one, hope you’ll go back here again for more eventually! It’d be awesome to see a shot from on the platform looking into the ‘trough’, as long as you stood in the middle Thanks a ton for posting these, made my day!

Few other things I forgot to ask/mention…
1) I know you’ve answered several times that there’s no packer, but how do they handle moving everything forward when the truck fills up? Just floor it and then slam on the brakes–LOL!
2) Does the body tip to empty?
3) How many crates would you say they miss on a daily basis? Seems real likely to happen with A. all the cars parked there and B. while constantly trying to keep up sorting…
February 14th, 2009 | 3:12 pm
MitchellM15:
1) That’s the most probable method, same thing was done in Pittwater with the old bottles truck – was told one day the tailgate unlatched lol I don’t think it’d be needed often, if at all, because they seem to chuck the glass towards the back so wouldn’t probably clog up?
2) Yes
3) I wouldn’t say they’d miss that many, they probably get used to the route and where all the crates are placed, but I’m sure there’s the occasional drive-by?
February 16th, 2009 | 12:05 am
MitchellM15:
3) Continued: You’re definitely right about all those cars in the way, driver must have x-ray vision
I’ll do my best to get this truck in action again for you, I only know of Woollahra to still use this truck and that depends on the drivers being friendly if I can gettem on film. That’d be a great idea to get a shot of the “trough”, don’t know what the chance is of the shot but definitely worth a try…

lol Odds are that the drivers will be friendly and hopefully make that work Thanks for all the answers

March 21st, 2009 | 11:25 am
MitchellM15:
The top is for plastics and cans, and the bottom three are for clear, green and brown glass.
